My grandmother was only fifty-nine when she died of lung cancer in 1999. She had the disease several years before she died, and of course she obtained it from smoking cigerates. Even after she found out she had the disease she continued to smoke. On top of her chronic disease she also had heart disease and asthma. She had to have an oxygen tank in order to help her breathe After the doctor gave her only a couple of months to live, she came to live with my family. Hospice nurses came out twice a week to check up on her but it was nothing much that they could do, we just sat there and waited out her death. I remember the night that she died I believe that I was at church and after me and my brothers got back we were told that she had been taking to the hospital. By the time we got to the hospital she was already dead, I did not even get to say good bye. It was a hard time for my family because she had been the connection that held us all together. I miss her deeply because she was so sweet and loveable. I remember when I was younger, I used to spend a lot of time at her house with my cousins. She used to cook big meals that we all enjoyed. She made a peach cobbler that was out of this world. My grandmother is gone now but her memories will be with me for the rest of my life. This page is dedicated in memory of Lunnette Moore.
